Energy powers the world. But where is it generated? Most often, in a generator driven by a steam turbine. The turbine is fitted with blades, and their manufacturing is among the most technologically demanding operations. MATEX PM, a member of the Klastr MECHATRONIKA, will be presenting at the Technology Village during the Cluster Day in the Pilsen Region. Visitors can look forward to seeing a turbine blade on display. The event will take place on 22 October 2025 in Pilsen.
MATEX PM is a private company with a 20-year tradition. It specialises in the laser processing of metallic materials at the highest technological level – laser hardening, cladding, and welding.
The company has technologies that can increase the durability of turbine blades, thereby extending their service life. The key methods are hardening – strengthening the material using a laser – and welding. The exhibited piece is an example of a blade whose part is coated with a special cobalt-based weld overlay material. A blade treated in this way has significantly higher resistance to erosion caused by water droplets, which increases the service life of the entire turbine while also improving its efficiency. Although this solution is technically demanding, it is economically advantageous and environmentally friendly.

Membership in the Klastr MECHATRONIKA brings many benefits. One of the most significant opportunities is presenting innovative technologies to a professional audience at specialised events. Cooperation among cluster members allows us to share information about modern technologies as well as the challenges we face. Another highly valuable aspect is the ability to raise awareness among students, to show them specific applications of technologies and their use in practice. Young people represent significant potential for the future development and implementation of new solutions.
