BEST PRACTICE FROM POLAND - MAZOVIA CLUSTER ICT

Novinka

NANOPROGRESS, introduced its other long-standing partner, Mazovia Cluster ICT from Poland, at an online meeting of NCA members. Ms. Ewa Rekosz presented the key activities of the cluster and the areas of activity and shared the experience of cluster operations in Poland.

Mazovia ICT Cluster has been cooperating with NANOPROGRESS for 10 years. According to Ewa Rekosz, NANOPROGRESS is a cluster at the European level. She sees it as a successful, professional and inspiring partner to look up to.

Mazovia ICT Cluster is based in Warsaw and brings together members not only from this region but also from other parts of Poland. Thanks to the scope and quality of its services, it has grown from a regional to a national cluster. It provides members with professional services that are often lacking in their home regions. Mazovia ICT Cluster emphasizes not only professionalism, but also building close personal relationships, which strengthens successful cooperation. Ewa Rekosz expressed her wish to establish cooperation with other Czech clusters. The Mazovia region, in which the cluster operates, is the strongest economic region in Poland and forms the natural centre of the country.

Mazovia – the heart of Poland’s development

Mazovia is one of the most economically diverse regions in Poland. It boasts a strong and diversified economic base that includes manufacturing, services, finance, and agriculture. This diversity contributes to its stability and economic resilience. The region’s main centre is Warsaw—the capital of Poland and a key financial and economic hub of the entire country. Mazovia is home to an advanced manufacturing sector with companies from the automotive, electronics, engineering, and chemical industries. Its strategic location in the centre of Poland, combined with high-quality infrastructure, makes Mazovia an attractive location for manufacturing and distribution companies across Europe.

Mazovia Cluster ICT holds the prestigious title of Key National Cluster, which is awarded in Poland once every two years. Gaining this recognition is very demanding—it requires detailed data submission and the fulfilment of strict criteria, often more stringent than those required for the Gold Label of excellence awarded by ESCA. Holders of this status have access to special programmes and calls and enjoy greater trust from institutions and partners. Currently, only seven clusters in Poland hold this title, reflecting its exceptional value.

Mazovia Cluster ICT brings together over 500 enterprises, 85% of which are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The cluster also includes major international companies, research institutions, and universities—among the largest partners are the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Technical University. The cluster is also proud of its collaboration with 66 research and development institutions, making it a strong player in innovation and international cooperation.

Mazovia Cluster ICT plays an important role not only at the regional level but also internationally. It is significantly involved in shaping public policies, especially in the energy sector. It has long cooperated with the Polish Ministry of Energy and local energy clusters, contributing to the development of sustainable energy solutions.

The cluster’s expertise is also valued abroad—for example, in Ukraine, where it cooperated with the Ministry of Energy before the war broke out. The cluster provides expert advice and shares best practices, supporting the stabilisation and modernisation of energy policies in crisis areas.

Mazovia Cluster ICT is a strong partner for its members not only in development but also in securing funding and international expansion. It actively assists members in preparing project proposals according to specific call requirements and participates in international trade fairs, such as the Defence and Cybersecurity Fair in Peru.

The cluster is funded through membership fees, paid services, and participation in European and national projects. The services offered include:

  • Consulting and project proposal writing for members
  • Monthly overviews of open calls for corporate members
  • Energy efficiency consulting
  • Cybersecurity audits

The cluster also initiated the Space Bridge Fund, financed under the Bridge Alpha programme, with a budget of €15 million. The fund supported a portfolio of 21 start-ups, each receiving an investment of €250,000. The cluster is now finalising a new defence fund to support Ukraine, amounting to €25 million, backed by investors from Italy, Monaco, and Poland. Mazovia Cluster ICT will offer this opportunity to NCA members, who can submit their start-ups—the only condition is registration in Poland, which can be completed in just one day.
